Lately there seems to be a lot of efforts being made to make blogging even more social than it already is. I have written several times on sites like WebProNews and SmallBusinessNewz about some of the things different platforms like Movable Type, WordPress, and Blogger are doing to make their services more social, and why blogs are really kind of like social networks anyway.

Rather than rewrite these articles here, I will just provide you with a few links. I don’t intend for posts on this blog to just be collections of links in the future, but since I am new to the blog, maybe it will give you a little taste of where I’m coming from.

- The Social Part of Blogging

- Google’s New Blogger Features

- Movable Type: Blogs Not Social Enough

- Facebook Connect Plugin for WordPress Glimpsed

Anyhow, I just thought the topic of blogs as social tools seemed like a good topic for me to start with here, so I thought I’d throw these at you.

As far as this blog itself, you can start expecting at least one new post usually about 5 days a week. So those who don’t subscribe to the feed, please come back frequently!

Moveable Type which is owned by SixApart has just gone open source again. You can get it for free right here. Moveable Type is very stable and robust and is used by some of the worlds largest corporations, such as: Boeing, ABC, Time Inc, Nike and many more.

It is going to be interesting to see how this will affect the blogosphere. Will people move from other free networks such as Blogger and move to Moveable Type. How will this also affect the dominance of WordPress in the blogosphere, im sure it wouldnt have much effect in the near future but watch out over the long run.

Movable Type 4Yesterday, Six Apart announced the long awaited beta release of Movable Type 4. The new release includes many new features including a new installation and upgrade wizard, more powerful template management tools, new default templates and themes, and a redesigned user interface that will simplify common tasks.

MT4 will also serve as a social media platform that enables businesses to create community-driven websites. Among the new community management features is the ability to give users the right to post, add and share rich text and media posts with photos, videos, and audio.

More importantly, Six Apart also launched the Movable Type Open Source Project, an initiative that will result in the release of an open source version of MT later this year. The new licensing model looks like it will be similar to MySQL where the paid version includes technical and product support from SixApart.

This is an important development because the new open sourced version could turn out to be an interesting alternative to the millions of bloggers who now use WordPress.
