As many of us know, Twitter is a great way to publicize blog posts. With this in mind, an efficient and convenient way to help spread word about your blog posts via this medium is by installing a service called TweetMeme. This is a site which acts like a social bookmarking niche for Twitter, but instead of the voting system, sites gain popularity by the method of retweeting.
TweetMeme is completely free, and can be added to your blog posts, so that you and/or other readers of your blog can retweet the subject and URL with just one click. With this service, you can see how many retweets the specific blog post has, along with other Twitter users that have retweeted it. As you can see, I have just added the service to this blog.
To install TweetMeme on your blog, I have provided a link to a quick tutorial from the W3CGallery Blog. WordPress users can add this as a plugin to their blog via the WordPress Plugin Directory and enabling it in the Plugins section of the admin panel.
This is a viral (and addictive) way of getting your blog (and blog posts) noticed on Twitter and the blogosphere!

Re-Tweets are tough depending on your industry, thanks for the post though will have to look into it. Many of my blog readers come straight from Twitter

I have used tweetmeme for a couple of blogs of mine. It’s pretty useful to get some twitter traffic but limited to your twitter followers list mostly. But I see that big authority blogs get a few hundred tweets…
In general twitter directories and services like these are spammy in nature as it basically spreads the same text all over but replicated. That way, even twitter may be considered spam!

Wow – what a great idea! I’m obviously a slow learner as I just finally joined Twitter. Now I’m finding out all this great stuff! The only problem is there’s just not enough time to get everything done – I need a time shift plug in
I have been looking for tool like this ever since retweeting became famous. I wanted to have a small application like this on my blog so that my readers can retweet the post easily. Thanks for sharing it pal
This sounds like a very useful service for any blogger who is also on twitter. The two mediums go hand in hand. So it is important that you market your blog through your twitter account. It would be quite time consuming to manually setup short urls everytime though.
I’ll have to give this plugin a shot. I’ve been using a different twitter plugin for my blog but I’ve been too lazy to switch. In general I hate using plugins that rely on someone else’s machine or server
I’ll have to try this plugin for my website http://www.findinvestmentproperty.com.au Thanks for the recommendation and the tutorial. Very helpful!

I use tweetmeme for my personal wordpress blog but my work uses BlogEngine.net, any idea what plugin I can use that have the same functionality?
Thanks!
Very well written post and again very informative. I am already using this plugin in few of my blogs. This is the best plugin available currently to publicize blog post at Twitter. As this plugin is viral, it really helps in promotion of a blog and in getting much needed traffic to a blog.
Good share mate
thanks for the information
this is nice. especially because of the fact that Digg, SU, reddit and others are overcrowded and overspammed. twitter is less used for social networking, so it might work better. maybe you could share the results of using TweetMeme with us?
There are many Feed to Twitter or post to Twitter services that posts your RSS feed updates to your Twitter accounts. One of such service is TwitterFeed.
If you have a blog, but aren’t on twitter yet, tweetmeme is perfect for you. It’s an easy way to promote your blog on twitter without having to spend a lot of extra time.
Cool addition! It would be great if you could add a “Tweet this!” link for blog readers as well.
