If you have not heard about it recently on Twitter, SquareSpace is a new trend with blogging technology.

Not too long ago, SquareSpace gained publicity by giving an away an iPhone for 30 days. Past this point, the site has continued to draw in bloggers and website creaters alike to this new technology.

SquareSpace is a fully hosted and managed WYSIWYG design environment for creating and developing a website. All of the arranging of the site’s design can be done just by clicks of your mouse–no coding, and no hiring any over-priced web designers. Some examples of some websites from this service can be found here.

I saw only one blog so far that is using squarespace. It looks very cool, I like the design. I think it cost money if you want to have it on your own domain though.

I think that if someone want a full control over his site, he’s still going to develop it by himself.

BTW, it seems very interesting.. it lets you been more focused on the content, and care less on the platform

I’ve been using Squarespace for a little over a month, and it is smooth! Designing a site, there, is super-simple, the platform is reliable, and the customer service is top-notch!

Tycoon Blogger, Squarespace costs money whether you use your own domain or not. (But so does hosting for most “free” self-hosted platforms.) In order to use your own domain, though, you have to have the $14 package or higher.

It might not be the place for people who are accustomed to running a lot of plugins or writing their own PHP. But for people who are would rather spend time developing content than on coding or maintenance, Squarespace is a very nice solution.

This site looks like the perfect type of site for someone who doesn’t know a whole lot about the internet but would like to put their name out there. The cost is probably irrelevant as it’s worth having a professional looking site that is easily accessible and reliable as you aren’t the one in charge of the IT.

Looks pretty clean to me

I agree. The cost is probably a non-factor. What matters most is having more time (and energy and focus) for developing unique content.

I can do the coding, but it is just so time consuming. WYSIWYG makes it so much easier to focus on the all-important writing of more and more content.

Of course, a good template helps too.

It all depends on what the cost is…their $8/mo package is very basic, whereas the $14/mo package is probably more suited to most blogs. If it saves you a couple of hours a month, then I would definitely say it would be worth it!

The pricing seems reasonable for what you get. I can see recommending this to some of my clients to get a blog up fast without hiring a programmer. While there are some excellent templates out there for $79, and you can get hosted on Hostgator for $8/month, you still have to know a few things about Wordpress to make it happen. I think that for totally novice people, this could be the service they were looking for. I probably wouldn’t do it without using my own domain name, though.

The recent advances in web creation technology are incredible and SquareSpace looks like another useful addition. The pricing seems reasonable and as mentioned by several people above, pretty much irrelevant!

Looks good to me. But someone who is accustomed to WP and loads of plugin, this may not be good solution. Personally I am developer and SEO guys so would no doubt keeping using WP.

Thanks for sharing though. I am bookmarked it. May try it to sometime

This looks like a very interesting service.. To be honest, its first time I’ve heard about it, but I might try to play a bit around with it.

Thanks for sharing about it – I think its definately worth a look for everybody who creates content on the web..

Costs are the first biggest concern to see if this site can add any value for me. Before you mentioned it I have never heard much about SquareDance yet will do further research now that you brought it up.

Technolgies as such could be the turning point in the web design world..Bloggers especially would be really attracted with this type of service…Remains to be seen if Squarespace has certain flaws….Thanks for the information.

I have looked at SquareSpace a couple of times, and while I thought it was impressive, always went back to Wordpress.

I’m perhaps not your “normal blogger” though – I am a software developer, so am able to build whatever functionality I want.

For a writer though, I can see how SquareSpace would fit.

I really enjoy using Squarespace myself. I’ve experimented with several CMSs and tried building my website from scratch using software such as Dreamweaver but I had to ask myself how much time I wanted to use to fiddle with the backend and design against how much time I wanted to dedicate to writing and publishing content.

Hmmm…I’ve not tried this yet. I agree with Norman Rockwell Art’s comment…anything that makes it easier and quicker to get your content online is a good thing. As long as you don’t sacrifice too much flexibility/customization. This is definitely worth a look, though…

My experience with Squarespace was very positive and enlightening.

Squarespace is also adding some new social networking features, which I THINK may be lifestreaming capabilities. If so, that’s just freakin’ brilliant.

I have used Squarespace for 6 months. Generally, the experience has been very good. The only complaints are the search facility, which is very poor, and the inability to claim the blog on Technorati. The former has been acknowledged by Squarespace, who do not seem to care. The latter complaint may be my fault.

Wow – it’s pretty intense. Kinda makes me wish I hadn’t used Wordpress for YouthBusinessBlog.com, but it does seem a bit complicated. I’m always weary when using WYSIWYG editors.

Squarespace looks very powerful! I think I’ve seen a similar website offer a similar service before, but I honestly can’t remember the URL address of that website, maybe it was Squarespace… but I am not sure.

Till then,

Squarespace definately is an up-and-coming system that provides bells and whistles that many of the other “customizable” systems neglect.

The editing on Squarespace is all done on website, no additional WebEditor tools etc. The refresh rate upon changes is very fast…can’t complaint at all!

It’s really like what it advertise, elegant and professional.

I haven’t heard of SquareSpace before, but am heading over there straightaway to go have a little look. The questions that are popping into my head are legio, e.g. is this search engine friendly? For amateur or pro’s? Functionality? So I’m going to look for myself now.

Hey Chad,

Square space looks like a pretty cool application, and will surely save your money, but for a developer like me who develops his own website its uneasy to access and I don’t see the perfection as I see in the work that I do manually.

This can be because designing and coding is my line of work, but you cannot achieve that precise perfection as you can by your work.
