One of the draw backs of using social media as a means of advertising, is updating the page(s) of the social media sites. A lot of the time, you may be to busy with another work related task, or you may just forget. You could depend on your audience to submit your blog posts to sites such as Digg, or Reddit, but that doesn’t mean that it will happen. Another option, you could pay someone to maintain your social media sites for you. This is however looked down upon by many of the social media members. So, how can you for sure your social media page stays up to date? You could allow plugins to do these tasks for you. Most of the more popular blogging software, like Wordpress, are designed to allow third party plugins, and most communities have a lot of very useful plugins that are free. Here are some plugins for Wordpress that allow you to connect to your blog and your social media pages.
Twitme – Twitme is a Twitter plugin which tweets for you whenever you post a new article. The great thing about this plugin is that it automatically creates a short URL for the tweet, and you can format tweet anyway you want. This plugin even allows you to tweet your older entries, which is great if you just created a Twitter account, or if you want to make for sure all your articles have been tweeted.
Twitter Tools – Twitter Tools can be summed up as a conversation between your blog and your Twitter account. Some of the features which Twitter Tools support are tweeting from the Admin panel, tweeting from a sidebar on your blog, create a blog entry from your tweets, and pass your tweets along to other services. Twitter Tools’ ability to create a blog entry from your tweets is really great, since there are times you may want to tweet about a website you saw, but don’t have time to write a full article about it. The only downfall to this plugin is that the author no longer supports the plugin, so you must rely on the community for any issues you may experience.
Social Profilr – If you ever wanted to display all your social profiles on your blog, this is the plugin for you. Social Profilr adds links to all your social profiles via a sidebar widget. This plugin seems to benefit the visitor more than you, but this isn’t the case. If the visitor chooses to follow you on a social media site, then their friends can see your profiles also. Which if your profile is about your site, then there is a chance the visitor’s friend will visit, thus spreading your site’s name.
Sociable – Sociable is a popular plugin that allows users to submit your site to multiple social sites via the click of a button. The plugin includes most of the popular social sites, like Digg, Reddit, del.icio.us, but also includes less popular sites like Blogmarks. With Sociable, you are encouraging visitors to submit your site to their favorite social media site, it may also push those visitors who thinks it is to much work to submit articles also.
Digg Widget – This is a simple sidebar widget which allows users to see the last 10 articles from your site which have been submitted to Digg. If the visitor is a Digg user, this will make it easier for them to find posts which have already been submitted to Digg.
Digg This Badge – This plugin allows you to display the famous “Digg This” button in your article. Digg This Badge, interfaces with Digg’s API, and allows you to choose when to display the Digg badge, based on the number of diggs an article has. This is another great way to display how popular (or unpopular) an article is on digg.
We covered Digg, and Twitter heavily in this article. But if your site does well on Reddit, or Stumbleupon, then head over to Wordpress’s plugin page (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/) and search for specific plugins based on those social media sites. We just gave examples of what the community provides. There are way too many social sites for us to attempt to list a plugin for them all. If you have any other great social media plugins, tell us about them in the comment section.

Nice info.. thanks for it.. keep up the good work.
These are very useful tips and I thank you for posting this.
Social media sites are great ways to get a little traffic to your site. The only problem is that if you promote your own blog post too much, the social bookmarking sites will ban your site! This has happened to me. I had to make other accounts using a proxy site which took me forever! Dont get banned!
Thanks for sharing these tools. They can really save a lot of time. Also great tools are one that cover multiple social sites in one plugin at once.
Great list of Wordpress Plugins
for the social media.
Currently I am using “AddThis” for one of my personal websites, but I am starting to not like it as much, as some of the Plugins you have presented here!
Till then,
Jean
Its Really help for me. Thanks
I am going to use a custom template for my wordpress installation. Is there a chance that I will not be able to use some plugins due to the theme? I am mostly interested about the ones that manage ads?
@Online Shopping, As long as the wp template’s code is using all the standard wordpress codes, you should be fine. Plugins are pretty versatile!
Till then,
Jean
I was looking for a better solution to tweet my posts so I am here reading this blog entry. I have been using onlywire on one of my blogs and I am not satisfied. I am going to try twitme so let’s see how it would go.
Very creative and innovative idea to present the character in a great way for commercial advertisements thank you.
I currently do not use any social media tools but this article gives me a good place to start. Thanks.
Good list, but on a small blog, is there really any benefit to these? We’ve considered adding some of these, but still researching the potential benefits aside from “looking 2009″…
Thanks for the wonderful list of social Media Plugins, I installed the Twitter Tools.
Excellent tips. Thanks a lot for this useful information.
Excellent Tips.Thanks a lot
Cool
Thankx for sharing
Simply add codes. more plugins cause wp down
Have only tried Share this as it seems to have all of the Social bookmarking sites contained within one box. The sociable plugin looks quite good as the icons are more visible than the share this tool so may give it a try.
i’m using sociable and sharethis in my blogs. It looks useful but sometimes I feel like it makes my blog dirty.
i’m using sociable and sharethis in my blogs. Although it is useful but I sometimes feel like it make my blogs dirty.
This is a great list. Im def. going to use some of these on our site.
Woo! This is just what i’ve been looking for, thanks!
Currently I’m using Twitter Tools, but thinking of moving to the lighter plugins. I’m wondering if Twitme could be a good substitute..
On my another blog, i use delicious plugin to show what i bookmarked trough delicious to my blog visitor
But i love twitter plugin, it’s make our blog updated hourly
I know that they’re necessary… but something about that makes me so mad. The idea that somebody is so lazy that I need to place a button right on the page to make them not give up… ugh… It’s just a pet peeve of mine. Like when marketing sites put phone numbers all over the page because they think you’re too stupid to find the Contact page.
All these are very useful for a successful wordpress blog. Derald can please tell me the name of your spell check and smilie plugin. I came through both of them when I was commenting on this post. Thanks.
need to try out twitime. Already using sociable…
Good Informative post
Cheers,
Sandeep

this useful plugin. i have install a part…
Nice collection and I think these are must having plugins to social our blogs. Although I am not in the favor to have a lot of mess on blogs but some of them are necessary.
thanks for this post, very useful
StumbleUpon also has great value in driving huge traffic quickly, so I would definitely include an SU plugin as a must have for any serious blogger.
Great list!!!! Thanks for the time.
Very useful post. I’ve already subscribed the feeds. Thanks!
The list of plugins is great, but, often enough, the multitude of buttons on most wordpress instalation seems overwhelming to me. I mean, some people must have a dozen of buttons similar in function to stumble upon, there are just too many plugins that basically do the same thing and some people feel that it’s compulsory to install them all.
Digg this button should be a basic option posted under every post on every blog theme. I mean it’s just a little button and in case you do post something insanely good, you might get a lot of attention out of the whole deal.
AddThis is my favorite one. Nice list.
I have a degree in Communications and I am very interested in getting a job in social media or in a photography studio. Where online can I search for jobs like that?
Sociable and Twitter Tool are must haves!
Hiya All! I just popped in to see if there was any fresh posts or new comments to interact with! Have a brilliant sunday evening everybody!
Very good list… I feel that the twitter plugins have taken precedence over the general bookmarking widgets in the past six months or so
This is a nice little list. Im a big fan of sociable. Its a great plugin.
For a good result in blog to have a twitter account and social media’s all top links at home page are essential..
The Sociable plugin for Wordpress has been great for me, and very beneficial. These are some great plugins Derald, thanks.
Digg widget is a must-have for every site. There’s no reason to not install it. And if you do it might help you get some more publicity for the site. There’s no downside.
I am already using Sociable and Twitme plugins in my blog. Both of these are great plugins and very useful for bloggers. I will give a try to Digg Widget and Digg this badge soon. Any tips on how to get more diggs?
Thanks Derald, for great list of Social Media plugins. I really appreciate.
I’ve had problems with Twitter tools. That explains why. The others are all good, but do people actually click on the links to Digg a site or the Sociable link? I pretty much ignore them, and I wonder if they help or hinder your success. I’d love to hear if they actually help anyone.
I love my Social Media buttons on the side of my site to coincide with my Social Me apps. Check out my Social Media Buttons on the side of my website though you will probably like them.
Thanks for these plugins. Do update us, if you find anything new!
Sociable, is one that i’m using on few of my blogs these days. Wanna try twitter soon.
Good article, glad you shared this.
I am currently using Twitme , works like a charm, i recommend it !
Sociable and Twitter Tool are must haves!
Lol, look at all the spammers, especially the second hand cars guy
Although my current Wordpress blogs have some of the listed plugins installed I think I have found a couple on your list that I will be adding over the weekend. Trying to keep up with all this stuff is a daunting task for many of us. Thanks so much for the resource.
Two new great twitter plugin are Tweetmeme and Twittley. I am having great results with Twittley.
Twitme is most important Social media plugin for wordpress.
I always use this plugin.
Sociable and Twitter Tool are must haves!

Actually Sociable does include links to Reddit and Stumble as an option, so there is no need to install a separate plugin for those. Great list, I really like Social Profilr, I always thought that was part of a blog theme, not a plugin. Thanks!
Thank you for your helpful information!
I have been using Sociable and Tweeter Tool in my Best Buy & Idea | Blog & Store, and they are very effective. I will try others as you suggested. Thumb up to your sharing. Cheers!
I tried to use sociable but it didnt work well for me.Will try to use ones you posted about. You never know what is best for you

I using custom social services links, and then i will try your tips. Thank for idea
the list is great! there are much more of them, but you have mentioned the essential ones. they save readers much time in case the article is good enough to share.
Social Media is really important when it comes to making your presence felt on the Web. These social media plugins are really useful as they help people know what you are doing. For instance, your latest update can be tweeted. Thanks for this great share.
