PureBlogging » Blog Archive » Tips On How To Expand Content

Coming up with blog content can be hard at times. There maybe some content you think that you can’t use because there isn’t enough “meat” to the content. Here are four tips on how to get more out of little content.

1. Put Yourself In The Situation

You should take your idea one step further and put yourself in that situation. If you are blogging about a news report where a suspect was wrongfully treated, take a moment to reflect on how you would have reacted in that situation, as both the suspect and the officer. By putting a small spin on a story such as this, will not only allow you to see the story in a different aspect, but would also allow you to show those ideas to your readers.

2. Create A Debatable Subject

Take an idea and turn it into a debate against yourself. If you are talking about SEO, debate if being the number one result is better than being the number four result. You can find a debate on almost any subject. Debating the subject will allow you to think of new ideas and facts about the subject. Using the SEO example, we can use information like does an actual user who clicks on the the first result find it more useful compared to the fourth result, or how much more content is actually useful out of the two results.

3. Describe The Subject To A New Beginner

At first this seems really hard when you are writing, and you may also feel as if you are offending your readers, but start writing as if your readers have just found out about the subject a few hours before reading your post. Going back to the basics will allow you to remember what it feels like for the subject to be new again, it could also change your perspective on the subject. This is something that you hear about in sports all the time, the fundamentals are important other subjects also. Always remember KISS (Keep It Simple Silly), when writing.

4. Keep Your Subject Fresh

Talk about something along the same topic as your site, but with a different twist. If you have a site based on car audio, you may want to talk about the car’s stereo effect on the alternator or battery. By keeping the subject fresh on your blog, you are making for sure that you and your readers are not bored. When branching out with other related topics, you may find other subjects to explorer in later posts.

http://www.pureblogging.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_confused.gifKeeping it fresh & real is of great importance, whilst not losing sight of your core area of focus. The backbone of your blog is important, and needs to be kept strong with regular posts about your core focus. It is so easy to get side tracked, but hey, it does work for some people, basically taking the natural flow that comes to them….

Coming up with good content that people want to read on an ongoing basis is really quite difficult especially if you’re a one man/women operation, these are some good tips, nothing life changing, but if applied they can help make a difference..

The only stable way to stretch or compress a “cell” is in a table.Say a 3×3 table, all in squares. Through AJAX, I double the content of the center cell: the middle ROW will increase its height to adjust, without disturbing the layout…

It is true that creating good relevant content can be a hurdle at times, and while we all go through brain hazes it is important to realize that their are times when outsourcing can be the answer. Content and traffic is the blood of our site and we want to offer value to our readers and sometimes that just doesn’t flow like we need it to – your four tips are great ways to get the juices flowing once again-

And another way is write your blog posts in modules…What is about? Who is it aimed at? and what will they get out of it?

I also do sub headings of things I have thought of and then flesh them out over the course of a day.

Excellent points. Another trick that one could use is to link to relevant posts from other blogs (instead of announcing link loves) and shortly mention their views in your post. This would add more reader participation as well…

As a thumb rule, one should never complete a post…leave it at 90% to give chance for people to fill in as comments :) A lot of people seeking perfection would end up receiving less comments.

I would add a couple of points to this.

1. Make someone popular – write about a website / product that you really liked and share it with your readers. (I am not talking about paid reviews).

2. Answering frequently asked questions on forums in details gives a good opportunity to write new content from a fresh perspective and can also get long-tail traffic.

This is kind of like your second point, but one way to expand content is to use a “pro versus con” structure for your post.

Perhaps your are writing about article marketing, and the optimum word count of an article.

You can go through all the benefits of having a long article, say. Then you can explain the downside.

After listing these reasons, you can come to a conclusion about what the best approach should ultimately be.

Coming up with content is one of hardest challenge most new bloogers face. An idea I recently started using was to take stories from TV and use them to help me create content for my blog. For my niche internet marketing, for example I was watching a TV show about climbing mount Everest, and I was thinking about the similarities that I could relate to internet marketing. Like before they even climb their first mountain they must train (study internet marketing courses) Then they climb there first mountain(try to make one sale online). Then try to climb a bigger mountain(create some ezine ads). See if you can come up with some similar ideas.

I am an amateur web designer and all my previous layout deigns have been made using tables. I realize that is an inferior technique these days and that div and css are a superior alternative. I have been experimenting with div and css with dreamweaver and I was satisfied with my first layout sans tables. However, I then discovered an issue.

This is the best way on how to enhance my writing skills, I do have blog but I don’t think so if the write ups are okey because I do accept that I’m not a good writer. I’m in favor of the phrase that say’s “Content is king”, this is the great blog for me in order I can enhance my content writing technique..

Good advice. Always good to keep it simple.

If you can’t come up with a regular idea for a blogpost, you might seriously consider writing a little tutorial post for newbies. Not everyone knows what you do and sharing your experience might be a good idea.

Truly, it is very hard to make a good content. Unless, if you have enough knowledge about the topic, writing would definitely be easy. KISS is very effective too because not all readers like to read a prose type content!

2009-06-21 16:39:32

Being an SEO guy – I like #4 as well. The deal about having fresh content and changing it – does well for your site’s (or blog) Google ranking. Google itself loves new stuff and your readers will also love it as well.

Nice tips to expand content while writing. In my opinion, when we come out something new, even though we’re expert on this field, we still need to write from A-Z, to make sure beginner knows what we’re talking about instead of just showing to people who already knows the basic. In this way, we can actually expand the content in healthy and natural way.

Its so true that whenever we make any post our content should be targeted to satisfy newbies. This helps us to satisfy all categories of readers.

If we can follow all points mentioned above we can really succeed with our blogs and achieve our targets as webmasters. Gracias.

Great ideas. I have printed these and posted them as a reminder to myself. I am tickled that I found this blog.

My own experience is that video tutorials work nice for instruction, but not really well for being found. So I usually include a transcript or recap of the video on the same page.

This is another good post, especially for the beginner blogger. Keeping your blog relevant, engaging, and attractive to both new viewers and repeat customers is an ongoing challenge. One must focus on a number of things. In addition to all mentioned in this post, there are things such as monetization strategies (i.e. DON’T OVER-MONETIZE!), well-structured, unique content, etc.

Bravo on some *great* information. I’ve bookmarked your blog for future reference!
