This past week, WebProNews interviewed Matt Cutts of Google on his latest project, Google Friend Connect API. Cutts had some awesome things to say about his new project:
What got my attention was when Cutts referred to a WordPress plug-in that will be integrated using this API. This would be a great feature for bloggers, because you could jump from one WordPress blog to another without having to enter your name, e-mail, URL, etc. when leaving a comment. You would automatically be signed in using your Google, Yahoo, OpenID, or AIM account.
What are your thoughts on this new API from Google?

Yeah this is turning blogs in to a social network and creating a better community, I will defiantly install it when it comes out. As long as no one steals my comments and uses them for profits – sneaky Google harvesting data where ever they can.
It seems great but I wonder how much data Google will monitor from you. That is always my fear with Google.
I don’t understand though how Google Friend Connect will help to prevent spam drive-by. I mean how much different is it than Askimet?
If you’re thinking about (or already doing this) operating a blog family of sorts, for traffic or affiliate sales, for example, and you want to set them all up on wordpress sites for ease of use, this is truly great news! Going back and forth between those sites in your portfolio with ease would be fantastic.
Serious? I didn’t know that man.. Now that makes blog hopping and commenting really easy..
Very interesting article and thank you for sharing!

but i too don’t understand though how Google Friend Connect will help to prevent spam drive-by.

Great article even if I don’t like Cutt
I hope if it really works. It will be rocking then. Lets hope for the best.
Hello! I am from Belarus. Therefore, I am sorry for my bad English.
I have been reading your project pureblogging.com via translate.google.com. Now I want to help you. … Yesterday, I learned that you have the plugin, which is a serious error. Plugin – Top Commentators Widget. Error in plugin allows any user to take a place in the list of active commentators. To do this, leave only 1 comment! To this end, the visitor must:
1. leave a comment
2. specify any name that is already in the LIST Top Commentators (eg, Daniel),
3. link to your site
Now the list of Top Commentators, under the name Daniel will be a link on someone else’s site.
Detailed, I described here – http://www.vse-ok.com/2009/03/17/bag-v-plagine-top-commentators-widget-dayot-eshhyo-odnu-lazejku-dlya-optimizatorov
This idea is a good idea, as long as you are a genuine and leave genuine comments.
What I’m trying to say, I suppose, is that surely this makes a spammer’s life a lot easier?
Thanks so much for this informative video. I am sure it will give a lot of benefits to user and increase traffics especially potential customer to website. Good work Chad!
Yes, the convenience factor is very important, but I am increasingly getting uneasy about the amount of information about me that the big G is gathering.
Yes, there are definitely two hands to look at. I look forward to how easy this will make life with many blogs, but like others have suggested, what will our big brother G do???
I like the convenience, but I also worry about the big brother factor with G – am I being paranoid?
Google is just getting more and more involved, everywhere on the internet (and beyond). Privacy concerns are an issue, but I like the functionality of not having to enter all one’s details every time you visit a blog and wish to post a comment.
agreed they want to rule the world so they wont leave any opp
Good going

Are we over this yet?
If I want social networking I’ll go to facebook / twitter.
If I want to read blogs, I’ll go read blogs.
I don’t understand why everybody needs to be all things to all people these days.
Can’t we just leave well enough alone?
Thanks for sharing “Google Friend Connect API.” Great work! And informative posting

Lovely blog …it is really helpful. I would want to thank the author for writing this article.
I really appericiate your ideas & i am totally with it.
what is web 2.0 blogs?
Finaly. It’s not *that* time consuming to write your own name every time you post something but it’d be so much better to be able to comment without worrying about inputting your name and stuff every time.
Great information and thanks for sharing
Hmmm, there seems to be a lot of “Thanks for sharing” going on here!
But we have to say thanks for sharing, coz really worthy reading and trying.
Seems like another way for Google to collect data to be honest. Just for the benefit of not having to type your name and URL, I don’t think it will be worth the effort of installing the plugin.
Yes it’s a great tool ,will definitely download the software.I just found this great blog using google friend connect api blogging, I will add it into my favourities!
this will be great intergration from google , it wil be very easy for commentin and getting a back link
I like goog friend connect and the widget is cool. Just don’t like the hover over java widget on the window -it just annoys me.
I think this may be a good idea for forming communities between blogs, what worries me is where it will lead if future restrictions are applied.
Nice post…..Gives you a insight about the marketing and how to sell products to our customers.I believe this is the trust that we need to build up with our readers and our customers…when it to marketing and sales , there has to be trust and mutual responsibility.
GREAT IDEAS ! STRANGR ABOUT” GOOGLE-FRIEND”

This is the first video interview i have seen with the infamous Matt Cutts. Every webmaster lover or hates him according to the positions of his site to google search engine results page. This man is a pure genius. I really like to meet him.
i think this will be great..looking forward to it..
it’s very nice of google to take care of bloggers!
and the mention of the API integration to WP is very promising.
