If you have not found this feature yet, you may now be able to specify a post as “sticky” in WordPress. Sticky posts are for when you are wanting a post to remain at the top of your blog above all of your other posts.
This can be done when you are in the Add New Post section of the 2.7 admin panel. Under the Publish menu on the far right-hand side of the page, expand the Visibility area by clicking “Edit.” This will bring up options of how your post will be visible on your blog. Click on the “Stick this post to the front page” check box, then press “Ok,” and your post will automatically be set to be “stuck” at the top of your blog.

Although, WordPress 2.7 doesn’t have to have all of the sticky posting fun. A plug-in called wp-sticky can be installed for older versions, but it will work slightly different.
What is your experience with sticky posts in WP? With 2.7 or the plug-in for older versions. Have you used sticky posts in your blog?

Hi Chad,
Yes I use a sticky post in my blog with WP 2.7. My blog is a photo blog of sorts and the sticky post is the first photo, a Welcome one, which I want everyone to see when they arrive. Returning visitors will know to scroll past it to get to the newest entries. The sticky post process is super simple, just as you described in your post. At this time I only need to use it this once.
Cheers,
Laura
I never knew there was such feature! Thanks, I’m going to try it with one of my blogs

Thanks for the tip Chad. Has anyone tried that wp-sticky? Is it worth trying?
You don’t need it anymore. I did try WPsticky on 2.7 and had problems. It may have been resolved by now but the built in feature should do what you need.
Damn! I still use WP-Sticky
Thanks for the advice!
WordPress is made easy by the plethora of tips and tricks that get posted by afficionados such as you, Chad! The evolution of WP has really astounded me, and one thing is for sure, the developers are not resting on their laurels either. Catching up with WP’s efforts is going to prove an extremely hard act to follow!
Wordpress is so useful it makes things so much easier, it makes a lot of bloggers life easier
I prefer to use WP Sticky plugin
BTW, if you want to display only 1 post on your homepage and want it to be an announcement, WP Sticky will allow you to do that. But if you use internal tool for this, you’ll get 2 posts on your main page.
It’s very nice feature but some people simply abuse it. They have like 5 sticky posts on the top of every page. And finding news on their sites without subscribing to RSS-feed is extremely hard.
