Guest posts are good sometimes, but if you overdo them, you risk alienating your readers. That's another reason why it's good to get someone who is already well-known and/or respected in your niche if possible (though it's not always). On the other hand, a guest post every now and then can freshen things up. Just don't have guests post more than you post yourself, unless you really intend to open up the blog into more of a community-driven project than it already is. That’s actually a really good point.
