PureBlogging » Blog Archive » Monday Morning Link Roundup for 7/21/08

Happy beginning-of-the-week, everyone. As promised, I saw The Dark Knight over the weekend and, unsurprisingly, nearly pooped my pants with glee. A little plot-heavy, a little crazy at times… but good gravy, what a Joker. And that Aaron Eckhart was pretty damned unbelievable as Two-Face as well. I still haven’t seen Mamma Mia (nor have I heard good things about it, sadly), but that’s why the good lord made weekday matinees. I’m pretty sure they got made on the fourth day, somewhere between naked mole rats and Tejano music.

So, let’s see what’s going on in the world this week…

(opens newspaper, shakes creases out)

Freelance Writing Gigs asks: Is a Blogger a Writer? My answer: Sure! Every blogger is a writer! Not every blogger is a good writer, mind you…

Two good Twitter-related posts over at friend-of-the-site Crenk: Steven Finch points out ten great tools for using Twitter, and Luis Sandoval offers the top ten Twitter add-ons for Firefox. I’m about the world’s worst Twitter user; I tweet about once per week. Or I won’t tweet for five days, then make between six and eight updates in two hours. Then I’ll neglect it all over again. You know where I belong? 1850, that’s where.

Speaking of Luis Sandoval, he’s got a great post that asks one of the purest and most important questions every writer should ask his- or herself: Are you writing intentionally?

The folks over at SEOmoz are in the midst of a great discussion: What part of the SEO process is hardest for you? For me, it’s pretending I know what I’m talking about. Kidding, kidding. Or… am I?

At the Writer’s Bag, there’s a brand-new post about semicolons which does two things: Settles a discussion I had with commenter PS3 after my comma post, and makes completely obsolete the post I had planned on semicolons.

Cracked offers up its holiest of holies in two articles: The Top Seven Secrets for Writing a Cracked.com Top Seven List, and Seven Cheats for Hitting the Front Page of Digg. My prediction is that they won’t work for you. But then, I’m a depressive, pessimistic bastard who likes seeing other people fail, so I may not be the best source of advice. Again, I’m kidding. We all know by now how awesome I am.

Now: Stop reading websites and start writing something that excites you.

I swear I’m going to have to stop checking this website at the beginning of the week. These links always distract me from the work I should be doing

Daily slacker is fascinating and the only one from your list that really appealed to me. I intend bookmarking him and visiting him regularly.
The Semi colon post is also quite interesting. Thank you.

I have noticed that all Good writes and Bloggers almost right the same thing and pick similar topics. I think this is not good. It doesn’t mean that they copy each other but how they can write similar posts?

Those who daily use Twitter can take a good advantage of using the above-mentioned tools. Those who just start using it at least can have a try. Thanks for sharing this information with us

Do you believe that site analysis is worst part of SEO for me. From day one(when I supposed to start internet as my full time career) I have found myself pretty uncomfortable with this part. I often discuss a site’s SEO report with many of my friends to identify problems with that.

(checks desk calendar to see if this was written on a Monday evening)

Btw, heard the Dark Knight was awesome. Not sure if it’s hit my neck of the woods (north west UK)

With regards to every blogger being a writer… yah… but there’s many who are not too good at writing, or those who are like me, and are just lazy writers… I can write well, just choose not to most of the time.

I have to admit that the article “Seven Cheats for Hitting the Front Page of Digg. ” is the best article so far which I have read about digg. I was not Digg savvy not twitter Junkie but both of these sites inspired me the most recently. I have to say that I am addicted to both, even I search on these sites before moving to Google because all social media sites are now more informative and rich in resources.

Haven’t got to see the Dark Knight yet but did see Mamma Mia the other week. Wanted to see how it stacked up to the live stage show which was great.
All the leading male singers were pretty hopeless but hats off to Meryl Streeps’ performance and to her two girl friends, they made the trip to the cinema worthwhile.

What a lesson! Thanks for a nice list of articles, I’ll be checking what they have to say about getting to the Digg front page.

I’ve stopped attempting to pretend that I am a good writer. I usually do what you’ve done here, cover my articles in links and hope for the best.

Sometimes I rant on and on and receive no comments whatsoever; however, if I post a youtube video or a flickr picture (popURLS anyone?) I get at least 6 or 7. (I know, big numbers – right?).

Carry on! (my wayward son)
