Guest blogging for a popular site is a great way to get new traffic to your site. The hard part is finding time for multiple sites.

Great artcle. I've read a lot of usefull things in it.

Guest comments are not only good for the guest himself. The blog's owner also gets activity in his blog. It's like battarey - has it's + and -. But the author of the blog should care about the ballancr between + and -

Nice approach. I had always believed that when it comes to promotion we shouldn't be pushy or intrusive just to receive a desired response from our visitors.

Guest posts let the visitors make the decision at their own pace, that's the way I like it.

Thanks for such nice article.

Thaya,
I think every blogger has a different way that they like to be approached, so I try to be pretty careful about that. If it's my first contact with them or at least the first time I'm asking about a guest post, I will usually just send a brief email asking if they would be interested in a post. If it's not someone that knows me I'll quickly introduce myself. Then, if they say yes I'll write a post and email to them. Most bloggers won't set you up with a login unless you're going to be writing more than just one time. Some bloggers like to have an idea for a post run by them first, so I'll do that occasionally, but I've found most bloggers don't work this way. My advice is, if you are unsure just send a short introductory email to ask about the possibility of guest posting. If they say yes, just work from there.

Guest posting is a great way to get more readers to your site through other sites. To be a guest poster you do need a good knowledge on a specific topic otherwise there is no reason that a blogger would accept you as a guest to post on his blog. Writing good content that others will enjoy can do great things for you.

Excellent post, Steven. I have used guest posting a lot. In addition to building up readership on my own blog, I've had new readers and have introduced my readers to some new blogs. It's also landed me a couple of paid blogging gigs. I think putting your best content out there pays dividends, and it also helps if you can guest blog on some well respected blogs (harder to achieve but not impossible.)
