I've found that guest posting is by far the best way to get visitors to your site (if your posts are good and on popular sites). I personally comment and guest post because I feel they're the most effective.

Advertising is good if you're selling something or making money on advertisements.

I recently launched my site devjargon.com and am currently trying to get new visitors by doing the things you've said here.

Great post.

Totally agree with guest posting.
And simply "social activity" = "big boost".
The only problem - it's free time :)

Good article, and I Stumbled it.

One important tip that is often overlooked when it comes to bloggers: the REAL WORLD. That is to say, go offline. I've had a lot of success with this and every serious blogger should be attempting this in some shape or form. I'll blog about it soon.

Michael,
I think my experience with writing guest posts was probably pretty similar to yours. I think we've both made our rounds. I don't have much experience publishing guest posts though.

I recently signed up for Twitter, but I admit that I really have no idea how to use it effectively yet.

Steven, this is a great overview of extending reach. I think for beginning bloggers, guest posting especially provides a big boost. I've extended my reach fairly well by both having and writing guest posts (it works both ways). One of the biggest boosts recently has definitely come from social media, particularly from Twitter (my twitter page).

But as you kindly pointed out, offering a free ebook that is substantive value was the most effective outreach effort I have made to date. I confess I had no idea it was going to be so effective. It would be easy to act like I meant for it to happen that way but the truth is I had no idea. It was a very pleasant surprise!

This is a great post. The information on this post gives the simple facts of what to do if you want to be successful at blogging. I think too many people don't realize how much effort you really need to put into your blog to be successful, this post tells it like it is. Great
