Jim,
I agree that it's ok, and good, to venture out a little bit. I guess my point is that it's good to have a solid identity by knowing what type of content you typically do well and providing that to your readers regularly.

I agree that frequency is one key to building your audience. If you don't give them a reason to continue to come back, they won't.

Most blogs allow for the flexibility to offer a variety of types of posts, so writers shouldn't be afraid to venture out of their pigeon-hole occasionally. As long as the overall pattern has a consistency, it is OK to experiment with different types of articles.

Frequency of posting is important, it gives your readers a reason to wait and read.

Your post is an important one for would-be bloggers, especially business blogs where image and branding are part of the overall picture. I am currently working on the creation of a blog for my employer. Your tips here are great talking points to discuss with the staff prior to our blog going live. Thanks for posting!

Frequency of posts is certainly the biggest problem. Writing content doesn't take long, writing good content isn't so easy.

I say that from a hobby perspective though, not a full time job. I guess if you have the time it is not an issue.
