I guess, everyone is most likely to have something to share be it driving a car or just personal day life. Everyone will experience different things each day. No one knows too little to share. My point is, even if you are just sharing about your everyday life in your country, the people in your country may find it boring because they have already went through it but the people around the world may find it interesting instead.

It's definitely difficult to determine a professional rate in a field where rates can vary so greatly. This is especially true if you're not just getting paid per post but also gettin ad revenue since it's really difficult to assess what the revenue will actually be.

However, as a general rule I start my bidding at a basic hourly rate. I've targeted an amount that I want to make per hour and I cater my bids to aim for that rate. (So if it's a per post rate and the existing posts on the blog look like they'd take me about an hour to write each, then my hourly rate is also my per post rate.) This way, I don't feel that I've undersold myself. And if an employer passes ... oh well. Let them work with someone who doesn't mind doing the work at a lower rate. I'm willing to hold out for what I really need in terms of a monthly income. In cases where I've really wanted to work for a particular site but wasn't sure what a fair rate was, I've stated my normal rate and added that it's negotiable depending upon the exact terms of the work.

As another note, I have never had a problem increasing my wage if it turned out not to be working for me a few months down the line. If something takes a lot longer than I expected and I'm not getting what I want hourly, I'll simply say that to the client. Usually if you've already proved yourself to be able to provide what they're seeking, they're okay with needing to give you that little bit more.

PS - Thanks for the link - looks like a good article!

Related to becoming an expert in your field: Seven Advantages of Working in Your Dream Market.

Also, a question, Kathryn: How does one calculate "professional rate?" I'm always scared of either bidding to low and underselling myself, or bidding too high and scaring off potential employers. Any thoughts on this?
