I’ve been a member of a number of social networking sites for quite a while. I’ve been Digging, Stumbling, Sphinning, and Bookmarking just like everybody else. However, unlike some of you, I’ve not been extremely active within any of these social communities. Sure, I visit a few of them several times a week, but I hardly ever take the time to network or submit interesting articles that I run across when browsing or going through my feed reader.

I plan to change all that and take a more active role in at least a few of these communities. Social media has changed the way people interact and communicate and I think it’s about time I got involved.

Here are links to my profiles on several of the more popular sites. If you take the time to add me as a friend, I will certainly reciprocate.

If you know of others that I should be checking out feel free to mention them here. Also, feel free to post your contacts and profiles below in the comment section, so that other readers will be able to add you as a friend as well.

I’d also add reddit (especially great if you have the habit of bashing politicians) and propeller to the list, definitely worth joining.

Added you to del.icio.us as garyr_h and stumbleupon as garyh84

reddit friends aren’t really needed, propeller seems to be a whole different beast compared to everything else as well.

If you want regular free traffic every day, EntreCard.

If you want an avalanche of readers, to really make a spike on Alexa then Stumble Upon is the most successful for me.

But what I do is to not only stumble my own pages I think readers will like, I also stumble pages within my niche of Japan bloggers - primarily those who link back to me. :-)

Every time I stumble my own page, I get 200-500 visitors. Every time I stumble a friends page, they get 200-500 visitors AND I get 5-20 visitors!

But the question is, will YOU be my friend?

Bumpzee and LinkedIn. But frankly the social network sites still don’t seem that valuable to me. I keep using several and they can be worthwhile but the hype is overblown.

Having an actual homepage for yourself is the best thing I think - and you can have links to your current social network sites if you like. For bloggers a about me page on the blog is great.

Hmmm! Not sure if that last comment went through. Might have had too many links. Anyway, I’ve added you, David, and you can find all my links here: http://www.squidoo.com/sharonhurleyhall

Gary, propeller is actually very similar to digg and can bring in a fair deal of traffic (not to mention that making the frontpage there is not nearly as challenging as with digg).

Out of the lot, I’ve had the best results with SU (even though I’ve made the digg frontpage this month as well) and sphinn definitely seems interesting as far as influential readership is concerned.

Hi David, just catching up with my feeds and read this so I added you to my SU, Mixx and BlogCatalog. I also added you to my Technorati fav’es, I’m surprised that hasn’t been mentioned yet.
