Moveable Type which is owned by SixApart has just gone open source again. You can get it for free right here. Moveable Type is very stable and robust and is used by some of the worlds largest corporations, such as: Boeing, ABC, Time Inc, Nike and many more.
It is going to be interesting to see how this will affect the blogosphere. Will people move from other free networks such as Blogger and move to Moveable Type. How will this also affect the dominance of WordPress in the blogosphere, im sure it wouldnt have much effect in the near future but watch out over the long run.

I doubt it’ll make much difference. What separates WordPress from other platforms is it’s active plugin & theme developer base…
Yeh very true. But I do think that MovableType will start to take off in the commercial sector, so company blogs.
Yawn…
WordPress owns this space. They are 1 day and 1 hour too late … or actually they are a couple years to late!

I would be willing to give Movable Type a chance. I like WordPress, but it’s not perfect. WordPress is pretty easy to customize, which would ultimately be a big factor for me. If Movable Type is more difficult or less flexible I would certainly stick with WP.
I think the future of Movable Type is largely dependent on the community of followers. Because of all of the plug-ins available, WordPress is very easy to customize. In order for Moveable Type to make noticeable inroads into WP territory it is going to need the community to strat making add ons.
I think Moveable Type developers will just on the bandwagon because now there is money to be made developing plugins and themes.. and not just on wordpress.
interesting!
I have never used movable type, this just might be my chance to try it out
Is there anyone out there at the moment who is using Movable Type and might want to let us know about their experiences?
I have never used MT but I did download it and I’m considering using it for a future project just to try it out. It’s tough though… I’m so used to WordPress and it’s so easy to customize that it’s hard to make a change.
It’s gotten so bad that when we talk about new projects my first thought is… hey, I think I can use WordPress to do that.
I think more business blogs would use MT. I don’t foresee changing from wordpress, unless MT has some really awesome features that set it above the rest.
Don’t see that happening in the near future. Besides, I’m more comfortable with WP anyways.
