I have only submitted to authority directories(if that's considered advertising).The only proper advertising I've done is through Entrecard :grin: I believe contests are the easiest way to get traffic into your site, although you'll need some cash to fork out. When I've commented on high profile blogs, the traffic comes in a little from that, especially if the comments are well thought out and genuine. Also, to add on to #10, when I change my design, I hop over to the designer's blog and let them know in a comment that I'm now using their theme.
