PureBlogging » Blog Archive » Post Level Ad Solutions, Still Unknown

An underutilized revenue stream in most blogs, the post level advertising solution is slowly coming into the mainstream. If you dont know what a post level ad is then you should really start to open your eyes and join the living. Post level ads are found embedded at the bottom of each post in RSS feeds.

These ads have long been on some of the most popular blogs around the net, such as John Chow and John Cow, but it still hasnt become main practice amongst lower level bloggers.

When monetizing a blog you always look for new revenue streams that are instantly going to increase your eCPM. Post level ads can do this quite quickly when they should be getting sold for a very small fee per post and when you can also fit upto 5 or so ads on one post. If you want to use more than 5 ads per post the bottom of each post just starts to look too busy and then the click thru rate will drop rapidly.

I have tried some of those solutions, however the revenue from it is not very high. On a per month basis if you have 10-20 sold … it doesn’t amount to very much. You would have to have some great content and selling in the 40-50 range to make some considerable cash!

Totally agreed Darin. But with relevance to a large scale blog with about 100,000 rss subscribers and then placing cpm advertising from feedburner on there can make some nice money. Well depending upon how many of those 100,000 actually read your feed everyday.

Thanks for the list David, do you use any of these companies? If so, which ones, and how are they working for you?

Hi JoLynn. Steven actually put this list together so you will have to blame him…

But since you asked…

I’ve used Yahoo Publisher Network and the results were rather uninspiring. Actually I’ve used YPN contextual ads on a few websites too and had the same results. Their targeting capabilities just don’t seem to be anywhere near as advanced as Google. I’ve dropped then completely.

I’ve also used Text Link Ads Feedvertising and had some success selling ads through them.

JoLynn: I put together the list myself and I have only used a couple of the networks listed.

Feedburner has a very good network and brings in a nice income stream, but this is done by invitation only and at present im not sure if they are accepting any more companies. Plus you need at least 100,000 rss subscribers i think.

I have also used Pheedo. It provides a easy to use interface but the integration into your feedburner feed is not so good.

However, Text-Link-Ads has a very nice product that is easy to integrate by the use of a simple wordpress plugin. Im not too sure if this has any implication on your Google PR though.

Thank you for including Pheedo in your post. In addition to CPC, we also pay on a CPM basis. Our in-feed ad server integrates very easily with all blog platforms, content management system and even third party RSS analytics providers.

Let me know if have any questions.
