Google ReaderMy favorite online RSS reader just got a whole lot better. Google just added a search function to Google Reader.

The new search box is located above the reading panel allowing you to search all subscribed feeds or by category/tag as well as shared items from others. This latest update also includes a few other new features:

Along for the ride in the search release are a few other Reader tweaks. You can now hide the side navigation by clicking on the separator to its right. Unread counts now go to 1,000, so that you can know just how far behind you are when you come back from vacation. Finally, Reader now behaves like every other web page and lets you use the forward and back buttons to move between folders and subscriptions that you’ve navigated to.

I guess Google got tired of reading all those glowing reviews of the new Bloglines Beta release.

I am a bloglines user right now, but I’ve been hearing all kinds of good things about google reader. I’m going to have to try it out and see what the fuss is about….

I’m using both. I need to stay connected and they both work very well!

I was watching a biography on google today. Another awesome feature is you can search books online now. Basically I think google’s goal is to be #1 in the world regarding stored information and I think they are well on there way!

I like Google Reader a lot. Although I have to say I have only tried a couple of other options, so it’s hard for me to compare. A search function is a welcome addition.

I dunno about that, Bloggeries, Ask.com’s commercials are lookin pretty good for searching. But I was curious as to how they’d do the pagerank thing if they were trying to replace google…..

I am wondering why did google take so long to introduce the search function in reader. It should have done it long back. Anyways better late then never. It surely will save a lot of time.

google can put their search into everything because they are a “search” company!

I use Bloglines, but I also set up an account with google reader to put a couple of blogs in there, just to see how my blog would appear to readers using google. I’ll have to check out their search function and see how it compares to Bloglines. Thanks David!

I really need to start reading my favourite blogs via RSS. At the moment they are all bookmarked and it takes me forever to get through them all!

Easier for commenting, though!

Martin,
You’ll like RSS a lot, it’s pretty nifty. It just makes stuff a whole lot simpler. And, there are pages (like RichMinx, for instance) that I can’t read at work, but I can read them via RSS….just a thought….

I am sure I would, Roberta – it’s one of those things that is ‘on the list’. Hopefully one of these days I will get around to actually doing it!!

Oh Google how much I love you! (but when you don’t touch about privacy things). I also use Google reader and is really the best option for me right now.
