Emerald Bay from Inspiration Point by .Bala
In order to grow your blog’s audience you need to create quality content on a consistent basis. You don’t have to post several times a day but if you can manage at least three to five quality posts a week you should be able to grow your reader base.
The problem is many bloggers struggle to find topics to write about on a daily basis. They just can’t seem to come up with enough subject matter to keep the words flowing. Don’t let this happen to you. If you find yourself struggling for ideas, here are a few things that may help.
Visit Other Blogs in Your Niche
Visiting other blogs in your niche is a great way to find new topics. If you agree with the bloggers point of view, maybe you can add your voice and expand on his opinion. If you disagree, you can always share your thoughts and explain why you feel that way.
Subscribe to Blog and News Feeds
Many bloggers subscribe to a large number of feeds because it allows them to scan the day’s headlines quickly and easily. You can just skip over any posts that don’t grab your interest while reading more if something catches your eye.
This is my favorite way of finding new topics. I used to have over 300 feeds in my Google Reader but have recently cut back to about 150.
Forums, Forums, Forums
If you want to know what people in your niche are talking about just check the forums. Over last couple of weeks, I’ve mentioned a couple of the blogging forums (AuthorityBlogger and Bloggeries) that I visit regularly to keep up with what’s going on the world of blogging. I check them daily looking for the new hot topic or a question that I can answer with a post on my blog.
Social Media
Another method of finding new topics is to check the social media sites. What are the hot topics at sites like Digg, Reddit, and del.icio.us? This can give you a quick snapshot of the topics that people are interested in and provide a shot of inspiration.
Keep Your Eyes and Ears Open
New topics are all around you if you just pay attention. Listen to what the people around you are talking about, watch the news, read the newspaper, or check the magazine stand. The possibilities are endless.
Do you ever find it difficult to find a topic to blog about? Where do you go for inspiration?

My biggest inspiration is other people, I pick up on little things from people and can (or at least try) turn them into full blown posts.
Forums are especially good I find for networking, rather than inspiration (try and turn a good post out of some of the crap on the digital point forums, I dare you!)
So what if someone is able to turn digital point forum crap into a good post? Any prize?
Good topic David, especially when I’m feeling a bit of writer’s block today!
You wrote about the Bloggeries forum before, so I’m going to head over there and sign up, thanks!
You mentioned news feeds, but I would encourage others to subscribe to magazines in their. That way you might end up listed in the social media that you mentioned, versus being inspired by someone else’s discovery of a magazine article and featured in social media.
That is the blue-est water I’ve ever seen. Anyway, I like to get inspirations from my prior past. That works best to be original.
I have no problem, finding topics to blog about. Another reason to create a blog about topics you are passionate about
Some good advice David. All of the points you mention are valid. I like reading the work of others to spark ideas, and I also like building on ideas from past posts.

Learning from other people is a great experience. I visit a lot of blogs and read everybody’s good and bad experiences. Sometimes I get to learn so much new and get to know how the people live in other parts of the globe. So good blogs have to keep their articles updated for readers like me to visit them over and over again.
When I’m not inspired, I read other’s posts in the same community. I post on my other blogs until an idea hits me. When the writing streak hits, I run with it, sitting down and doing like 2-3 posts in one sitting is not unheard of. Then, I just timestamp them so that I don’t have to think about it when the time comes.
I find that the better posts come when I’m not rushed.
The image itself is quite inspiring. I live only 30 minutes from Emerald Bay and can NEVER get enough of Lake Tahoe.
Great post!
