As many of you know, I’m a big fan of the Comment Relish WordPress Plugin. I installed it here in April and have found that it not only gives you another opportunity to thank your readers, it’s a great conversation starter and has even led to a few very important relationships being formed with other bloggers.
Unfortunately, some bloggers have reported that the plugin causes some pretty serious issues when they try to install it. John Chow reported that it actually crashed his server. That’s not good…
Well, there is an updated version of the Comment Relish Plugin available from PatchLog that reportedly fixes the server load issues. I’ve upgraded this morning and everything seems to be running smoothly.
If you have had problems in the past, I would recommend upgrading to this new optimized version.

Thanks for trying the optimized version. Feel free to let me know if you encounter any problems with it.
What IS comment relish anyway?
It’s a plugin that sends a thank you message to a commenter the first time that they comment on your blog. here is the link to my original post about it:

I haven’t seen any issues with the plugin at all, but an update is always a good thing!

It’s not always a good thing - I’ve seen a few break because of upgrades!
Of those I know using I haven’t heard of any issues. I haven’t tried it yet but thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for the news, I was waiting for such an update
I was running the previous version for a while without any problems - but it’s good to be protected for the future!
When I installed it a while back, for some reason, it wouldn’t function. I’ll try it again. Thanks for the heads up!
One of the reason’s why John Chow had a tough tie with the plug-in was due to the shear number of people who had left a comment. The plugin had to look through all the comment records to make sure the person leaving the comment was leaving their first comment.
This is actually one of my favorite plugins…it starts the conversation where your blog leaves off
good that they got it fixed, anything that would make my blog crash etc i tend to stay away from
I’ve installed it, hopefully it works!
The only problem I had with the last one was with trackbacks, if people pinged my blog it’d try and send an email, anybody had any problems with it this time around?
thanks for reporting the problem. It’s fixed now. The update is available here http://patchlog.com/wordpress/more-optimization-for-comment-relish-plugin/
Comment Relish is a good plugin , I would have loved to use it on my site but the only problem is I use blogger
Anybody knows about a comment relish widget for blogger?
Not to be harsh, but you might want to consider moving to WordPress, there are so many great features and plugins!
yeah, it’s called Wordpress
David, thanks so much for this post….I have received these emails after commenting on other blogs and I did not know what the name of the plugin was.
I think this is a very good idea, a good follow up to your readers’ comments.
I haven’t had any issues since installing the plugin, although I must accept that my blog isn’t quite as popular as John Chow’s!
It’s always worth staying up-to-date though, so thanks for the heads up!

Of course
Thanks Patches!
Sounds like a great plug-in; thanks for the tip! There are far too many thank-yous in the world today… so a big thanks to Patches & Hacks for creating this excellent relationship-building tool!
I did not create this plugin. The plugin was created by Justin Shattuck
I just fixed some issues with it.
Oops! Thanks for clarifying that, Patches. (Thanks for the fixes, then!) I’ll go give some kudos to Justin, too.
anyone see any issues yet? Looks like we are all in good shape?
