I decided that I was not going to participate in anymore link trains for a variety of reasons. The most important to me is the fact that eventually Google, Technorati, etc. will probably decide to devalue any benefit you get from participating in link trains. And they may even penalize the practice… so why should I push my luck?
Another reason is that I get so many requests now that I could do a meme or link train just about everyday and I’m sure many of you are in the same situation.
However, after thinking about it for a while I decided to participate in this one for a couple of reasons.
- It was started by my friend Darin.
- Being the greedy bastard that I am, I really want to increase my Bloglines subscriber numbers.
So, here goes…

I’ve never been one for the link trains – to be honest, I just heard of them for the first time after reading some Phillipino blog (he was way to involved in them).
I just don’t think they add anything to the content of the blog and should therefore be excluded. I view link trains in the same light as posting a picture of my dog – maybe on my personal blog, but never on something professional that is earning income.
Point well taken and I can’t even argue the other side. It doesn’t provide any value to the reader and that should be our focus. You’re right…
however … PureBlogging is a blog dedicated to bloggers and this train is not your normal run around … get people to link to you and it’s done … it’s helping you in many aspects …
1. The Incoming Links for Technorati.
2. The Push for RSS Subscribers and usage of a Great RSS Reader
3. The Boost for future data … since Bloglines data is being used by other tools to determine rank
4. Because I said so!
(ok, ok … so mabey #4 is not a good reason but the 1st 3 are!)
Darin
I tagged Donovan
David I am going to signup with bloglines today and will copy and paste the same as well . Hope that my Ranking in Technorati Increases as well.
There’s no need to get possessive, Roberta.
David: I posted this on my other site and added you to my list too.
Thanks for the link back!
Thanks Donovan. Sorry about getting Roberta all fired up… I didn’t realize you were already spoken for.
That’s alright, David. Roberta and I have spoken and we decided there was enough of me to go around.
Hehe, you’re MY friend!! LOL
I’m sorry.
I’ll try not to link to any of your friends in the future.
Just came across this! I’m flattered
I’ll post it tonight, my friend!
Thanks Ryan.
this bloglines train is a good idea that you posted, thanks
!
I think the link train is a good idea to be popular with search engines (but to a limited extent) and also get the viral popularity on the websphere. But I am not sure how much value would it add to your blog in terms of quality content.. – Info4BeingRich – Earning Money Online Made Easy
I can somewhat agree with the incoming links – unfortunately, more often than not, the links that come in from link trains aren’t related to your niche in any shape or form (well, other than their both blogs and probably running Wordpress).
Eventually, I think Google and others will penalize for this sort of behavior. It’s very similar to purchasing a text link – which Google has said it frowns upon when the two websites involved are unrelated in content.
Viral popularity? I don’t know – not sure what that ‘List This Site’ does – to be honest, I didn’t know anyone used Bloglines anymore. I did for a short while but quickly switched to Google Reader after using it for a short time.
I feel the same way and do not participate either. IF you were to do that I’d suggest you make an alternate account for that kind of thing. ONe that gets found, another that finds the blogs. I think they will be devalued too IMO.
