Every blogger would like to get more search engine traffic so here’s a list of WordPress plugins that can help make your blog more search engine friendly.
- Google Sitemap Generator – Generates a compliant XML sitemap for your WordPress blog that is supported by Google, YAHOO, Ask, and MSN Search.
- Permalink Redirect – Helps you avoid duplicate content penalties by making sure that pages and posts are always accessed via the permalink. If a requested URI is different from the permalink, a 301 permanent redirect will be issued.
- SEO Title Tag – This plugin makes it easy to optimize every title tag for every post, static page, or category page on your blog.
- Dup Prevent – Helps you avoid being penalized by Google for duplicate content by inserting NOINDEX meta tag in pages that might trigger Google’s duplicate content filters. (Update: It seems that WPSEO.com is having technical difficulties but you can also try All in One SEO Pack which offers the same functionality plus additional features.)
- WWW Redirect – This plugin allows users to have more control over the URI in which search engines and users access their blog. By doing so, you’re giving search engines and users a consistent link for accessing your content.
What are some of your favorite WordPress SEO plugins?

Oh good, you submitted a “top 5″ for the Problogger project!
I use 1 & 3 and I’m very interested in the other 3. I notice that my homepage (it’s not static yet) is indexed however a visitor can come there expecting to find text that isn’t there anymore since it’s dropped off already. I haven’t excluded my homepage in my robots.txt and maybe one of these plugins can help.
I’ll go through these tomorrow, thanks David! (and good luck in the drawing for the 1001.00!)
JoLynn
I think that the third and the fifth are pretty cool, I’ll try them out on my blog! Nice list!
Great Plugins … I use 3 of the 5 you have listed and I’m gonna use all 5 of them now!
Darin
Yep, I use three of the five as well!
Love the Top 5 post. I use 3 out of the 5 and will be checking into the other two.
BTW, when I tried to click over from ProBlogger, I get a 404 Error. I have to go to your home page to get to this page.
Don
We use #1, #3 and #4 are contained in the all-in-one-seo-pack (which we use) and I will definitely check out the others.
Other ones we use are: Akismet (the BEST), subscribe to comments (useful) and the Google Blog Search Preview (cool, but not overly so).

Great list. I like #4, but unfortunately I’m probably unable to use it because my blog is on wordpress.com
I only use number 1, the other I find unnecessary add-ons to my WordPress platform.

I only Use The 1st List,, it’s really Useful for SEO
So this is the submission for the problogger contest, I add my link there Too
Wow, that’s a lot of linkbacks!
This is a must plugin for the serious blogger.
Thanks
Vic
I guess not, it’s a good list of Useful wordpress to SEO and the newbie can use that too.

Looks like you also get many link Back, David
When I join the group writing contest, I get many instant link back too and I love it
Thanks for the list, there were 2 that I haven’t tried yet. It’s really to bad that WP doesn’t improve the SEO aspect of the product. Maybe in the future huh….
Useful collection of plug-ins, thanks
SEO Title Tag <– I was looking for this for weeks! Thanks a lot for this tips, I at least will use two of these plugins.
thanx for the plug in list , but i would have liked it if wordpress would give bloggers more html options;)
A lot of my clients have wordpress blogs and these plugins are a must for getting better rankings on the search engines, thanks for the plugins.
If you like subdomains, Dax’ (Greg Boser’s Programmer) made the Subdomain plugin. I think he calls Subster Rejuvinator.
‘Share This’ and ‘Gregarious’ are also good for Social Bookmarking shortcuts. To suggest people to bookmark it, and possibly get more exposure leading to better link baiting.
I also like SEOLogs.com’s WordPress Duplicate Content Plugin. Since WordPress has duplicate content in 4 places: Homepage, Permalink, Archive and Category views, the plugin sets the Category and Archive to noindex.
Thanks for this list! Hope they will help my website get a top position in the SERPs
A great list if I ever saw one. Thanks!
Thanks for this helpful list. Actually WP works good for SEO w/o those plugins but I’ll try if it can be still improved ..
Whoa, amazing site! I’m subscribed now, and I look forward to new posts!
Nice list. I use 3 out of the 5 and will be checking into the other 2.
Thanks!
Awesome list! I was looking for this info for the last couple days
Cheers, and thank you!
Great list you have here. This is first time I heard about all the plugins that you mentioned.
Here are some plugins that I use on my wordpress blog:
1. WassUp – analyze your visitors traffic in real time
2. SimpleTags – Allows you to create a list of Technorati tags at the bottom of your post
3. Easy Tube – easliy place YouTube video in WordPress
blog.
thanx for ur nice seo information where i can find more information about? would be glad if u can send me via email or say it here i will return after the weekend think monday or thur.
If you like some kinds of keyword stuffing things I thing BDP Referral Tracker, is a good one. This plugins show the referal tracker, from where and what keyword.
cek it here http://www.ozpolitics.info/blog/?p=32
I think there may be a better plugin to handle 301 redirects, as well as stripping or inserting the www before your domain. If yall are interested, it can be found at:
http://urbangiraffe.com/plugins/redirection/
Good article, and I like the concepts. I have a question though, I am using All in One SEO pack, and am having trouble deciding if I show noindex the tag pages. The categories and archives pages are noindexed, but I was hoping to rank for some of the tags. What do you think? Do you think there would be duplicate content issues?
That’s a great list of plugins, thanks!
Just an addition, if you are using google analytics to track your blog visitors, try this plug-in http://www.oratransplant.nl/uga/, it save me a lot if time
@ Pilseight
Thanks for your contribution of this amazing tool. It saved me a lot of time too to see how much visitors my blog has got for the day.
So if you didn’t know here is another amazing plugin Adsense tracker: this tracker will show your adsense earnings of your blog within your blog, it saved me a lot of time too.
I only needed the first one, but thank you!
All in One SEO Pack is awesome. It massively improved my serps for for my blog. It doubled my visitors within 2 weeks of me applying the plugin. I can’t recommend it highly enough
My personal favorite plugins are all in one SEO pack, SEO title tag and google sitemap generator.
I really like All in One SEO Pack, but I’ve heard the person who made it stopped supporting it. I also like duplicate content cure. Other than those I like to use plugins for both XML and HTML sitemaps.
Then a quick entry in the robots.txt to keep google from index random pages I don’t want.
I love All in One SEO Pack the only thing I have been a bit worried the past few months is the constant upgrade to the plugin it seems every time I look at my plugins page their i a new upgrade.
Mary
Where’s the All-In-One SEO pack? That’s probably my favorite one – easy to use AND great for SERPs.
Yes. I agree, All in one SEO is great. You can’t go wrong with it. It changes the H1 and H2 so your website is SEO friendly. Doing it manually takes time. SEO though deos it for you so you save time.
I love the All in One plug in. I think he still supports it.
Hi!
I think that when you use AIO Seo pack you don’t need the other plugin to change the page titles, it does that by default!
I think that AllinOneSEO also does the same job as SEO title tag, and much more. For me this is the most useful plugin for SEO for wp, in combination with the others you listed, it is the best you can have for SEO!
I dont’t like seo. Content is king!
I’m glad that you posted these. I already use a few of these plugins for my blog but now I’ll be taking a look at a few others.
BTW, I like the layout of your blog. Who did the template and header?
Your forgetting (probably not rrslly forgotten just omitted) one that is in use on the post and I thing crucial for great SEO, the related posts plugin. Adds tons of links, and reorganizes some text on the page whenever something new is added.
Bruce
I would have to agree with the last few comments, I really like All in one SEO, along with a related post plugin I have too.
SEO will come naturally if you’re honest with your blog/web/ whatever there is…. the content , written naturally will have the most impact on SEO…because it’s naturally linked together, the content make sense and not ‘made’
Sitemap is pretty important but not many websites are having sitemaps.
Great plugins. How can you go wrong with wordpress when there are so many things you can do to better your blog from a day to day basis. I reallu like wordpress and I really like searching, finding and using new plugins.
I agree. All in One SEO is probably one of the most usefull if not the most usefull plugin for SEO friendlyness. I mean it gets rid of all the dirty tags that would be in your title and only shows what you want it to show.. that is your title/url.
Kickass tool.
Plug-Ins are great. I am currently using only 2 of them though but they work perfectly
I like the Related Posts plugin … it’s helped many readers find other content on one of my client’s blogs.
Looks like All In One Seo is being handed over to Michael Torbert. I’m glad because i love this plugin. Related Posts is another I can’t do without.
I use all-in-one-seo for my wordpress blog and I would recommend it to anyone… even my grandmother. I agree with biyografi comment as well thought. “Content is king”.
I have been using no-www, I hadn’t heard of www-redirect before. I’ll have to look into it because it sounds a lot more feature rich to me.
I am just learning about SEO and your website is a great resource. I agree with JoLynn that 1&3 are the ones I am initially drawn to. But then again I am just learning.
Holy smokes. I never knew that All in One SEO has a duplicate content feature!? Now I have to go check the settings, lol.
The only thing I’d like to add is the CTC plugin (Configurable Tag Cloud). It’s like the standard tag cloud but it offers more flexibility in the customization of designs. I know a lot of people don’t use the tag cloud feature because it ruins the design and now they can. I think tags help with SEO as well.
Very nicely done. Thanks very much for the excellent post.
Thanks for these great plugins. Hope they work with 2.5 WP.
Regards biyografi, I agree contents is king but even good contents should be optimized.
I should really start using WordPress…It seems to have so many available features that Blogger doesn’t.
I use “SEO All in One” plug-in for all my blogs and it seems to do some magic job: with one blog achieved PR3 in two months and some of the blog posts appear on Google within a matter of hours. Pretty amazing.
Word press uses PHP right?
Google site map generator and All In One SEO are absolutely essential. They’re in my folder to upload to every WordPress site I start up.
btw. When I clicked on the link to the comment policy at the bottom of this page I got a 404.
Thanks for that wonderful list! I am using few of them right now.. will install others also
I use “SEO All in One. Very good plugin.
Just to add my 2 cents, i will add my self to the list of people agreeing with the above list and also also in recommending the All in one SEO pack plugin. Thanks.
I use Google sitemap generator. But All-in-one-SEO pack is what I use to optimize my single post and pages for keywords, title and description. It works like a charm!
Ajith @ DollarShower.com
Hello i have installed seo pack but its giving me error and its not working properly
when i clik on it it says plug in can not to loaded
any guess whats the issue ?
Thanks in advance
I’ve used 3# out of 5 and I am looking forward for 5th one that belongs to redirect plugin.
Some great SEO tools there, I particularly like the Google sitemap generator as it generates sitemaps accurately unlike most out there. Thanks for this.
Yeah, all in one seo is the best, but there is another great plugin that i found which have a complex feature better than all in one seo pack, its called wp headache if im not wrong.
[...] SEO Plugins For Your WordPress Blog by David Culpepper [...]
Google Site Map generator is a must! Brilliant plugin to get all your inner pages crawled. SEO plugins for meta structure will also help inner page SEO.
Dup prevent I havn’t heard of and I like it! Keep up the good work!
WordPress now automatically seems to redirect to the correct permalink url whether or not you add the / at the end. So the permalink plugin isn’t necessary.
I think the permalinks plugin is no longer necessary because wordpress now redirects to proper url regardless if / or not.
Awesome tips.
Will no doubt end up using some of these myself.
thanks
I’m also using all those plugins and they really help me in the rankings.
Thanks. I try some WP plugins.
I used two of awesome SEO plugins. Sitemap generator and All-in-one-seo. I think they’re must have plugins for WP bloggers. The rest 3 plugins seem interesting to me and consider to use them as well
I’ve used Platinum SEO Pack, it’s better than All in One SEO Pack
I install all of them but, not use it yet cause I wanna limit usage of server capacity … I use shared hosting
SEO title tag is amazing. Helps me a lot
Thanks for this list pal.
Nice Plugins!
It’s basic and must have plugins. But I usually only use wpspam free
. I don’t like to much plugins in my WP
I got notice of your blog post in my blog reader and followed
the link over to your blog. I find myself coming to your blog more and more often to the
point where my visits are almost daily now!
Really this is great article for those people who have none knowledge about seoPlugins.
SEO title tag is amazing. Helps me a lot
Thanks for this list pal.
This post really useful for me to create my blog. Thank you for sharing this nice information.
This post is really useful for me to create my blog. Thank you for sharing this nice information.
nice post..all plugins very helpful for SEO..thank u
all in one SEO pack and google site map is the most important … thx for this list btw
This is why i feel wordpress shouldnt be ever compared to other blogging platforms.
Totally I agree, but why do you use blogspot
It is a great list of resources all this are of utmost importance for the seo’s.
All-in-one SEO Pack is the best. Period.
Google Sitemap Generator is good and I use it on my blos as well.
These are some great plugins. Thanks for the heads up!
Very nice information. Thanks for this.
I personally think that the sitemap tool and the all-in-one-seo pack are the most useful plugins. The sitemap tool pings google and yahoo to let them know that you have updated your blog and your sitemap.xml file.
Thanks for these plugins. I just started a new website on WP and am looking for some nice plugins. Most of the plugins mentioned here, i didn’t know about.
[...] SEO Plugins For Your WordPress Blog by David Culpepper [...]
thanks for sharing plug ins.i am always a big fan of word press latest plug ins.
kind regards.
Are sitemaps really worth it? I’ve never given them much credit. I hold the notion of thought the best best site map is a well designed, navigational site with clear links. Let your site be it’s own sitemap I say!
Works for me but haven’t done any tests on this issue.
i never heard about wp dup, but already used all-in-one-seo pack..should i use wp dup also? thanks for sharing.
Thanks for providing info on plug ins.But are those the official download sites.Any way Thanks !!!
That’s fantastic set of plugins I am going to try them now. Their feature are so great everyone should have them in their blogs.
Thank you for those plug-ins. SEO is important for bloggers to get high in search rankings.
As a blogger the All-in-one-seo is great at teaching people whats important to get ranked as well as how to. Great plugins..
Great post. I love all the plugs listed, but have never tried the dup prevent one. Do you think it’s better than just using the functions built in to all-in-one seo pack?
Do you ever update this post? I come back here sometimes to see if there are new plugins added to the list; maybe a good idea? or link to another post of updates from here?
i used Google Sitemap Generator in my wordpress blog this plugin work for me.great plugin i never found before.
Thanks for the great list of plugins!
thanks for plugins information
I absolutely love the wordpress plugins, in fact… I love plugins for every program that I use hehe. But since you asked for a favorite… I would have to say the All in One SEO Pack by Michael Torbert
Thanks for the list, there were 2 that I haven’t tried yet. It’s really to bad that WP doesn’t improve the SEO aspect of the product. Maybe in the future huh….
thanks for recommend useful seo plugin for wp…good tools
seo is very important. thanks for providing this fantastic plugins
thanks for your information, I have been using the plugin you suggested and the result is very good
I currently use 3 of these, but I think I’m gonna take a look at the other 2. SEO plugins are always nice
. Thanks for the list.
Yup these tools really help me in gaining a good PR recently my PR reached 2 thanks buddy.
Nice list of plugins. I use 3 of the five. And I use PlatinumSEO instead of AllInOne. You should try out SEOBooster Lite as well.
Shaun
These plugins are very useful. I agree that the first three plugins score high in my book. Thanks.
I’m using Google Sitemap Generator and All-In-One-SEO-Pack, I admit that these 2 plugins are really useful for me and I’ve used them in all of my blogs. I personally think that Meta Robot (Or something like that) would be cool too as it sets nofollow to certain pages and items.
-Davis-
Nice Plugins
I was searching for Sitemap creator and 301 redirect thing! Thanks for it
Put me down as a big fan of the All In One SEO Pack plugin. OK, add me to the Google Site Map plugin as well.
I’ve not tried a couple of the plugins on your list, though. I will check those out on a new blog I’m creating. I do have a list of my must-have plugins. I’ll see where these fit in.
permalink redirect???its blackhat???
Thanks for this plugins!
I really love this plugin. I want to learn more in SEO. Thank you very much for this helpful article.
nice plugins.very factual article
Great post!! Really this was very helpful for many designers to know more about Word press Plug-ins. Thanks for sharing the information.
Thanks for this helpful list. Actually WP works good for SEO w/o those plugins but I’ll try if it can be still improved
Hey, I use most of these. Does the DUG plugin do a search on google for duplicate content and then automatically add a no-index?
I really like this plugin and very interesting article too. wordpress plugins can be very effective for article writers. I would like to tell about one plugin aizatto’s that allows you to show a list of related post either after or before each of your post.
I really like and enjoy this plugin and very interesting article too. wordpress plugins can be very effective for article writers
very great plugin, i like it
I love the 301 redirect tool.. I’ve been looking for something like that for a while.. Very useful and makes it much easier than editing .htaccess
I used most of these, but I really like to see more encouragement of the usage of KeywordLuv plugin.. I’m addicted to that plugin-hosted blogs
i am using google xml sitemap generator plugin i think its a best plugin for sitemap because when we publish any post it get indexed in google in few hours or even minutes, All in one seo plugin is also very good for beginners but seo sniper is best for advanced users but unfortunately it is not free
My favourite WordPress plugin is All in One SEO Pack which I am using from day 1 when I launched my first wordpress blog. Also, Google XML Sitemaps is integral part of all my wordpress blog.
I use those sitemap generator and seo title slug and AllinOne SEO pack for my home design blog…, those are great plugin to have and help me a lot.
WWW redirect I think was done within the WordPress admin settings, and I do use All-in-ONE SEO pack as well but I was looking for a sitemap generator and Permalink redirect.
Thanks a ton.
My blog is new so I still have to generate a sitemap for it and was thinking upon how will I do it.
Ken Lowman
I’m seeing the same plugins appear more and more on these kinds of post.
That duplicate content issue is a very pertinent one, as wordpress is inclined to do that to you….heheheheh…the All in One SEO plugin is a very popular one, but I recently came across comments that indicated that there was an issue with it and people were not doing themselves any favours by implementing it. I will go look for the post and post a link here….cheers everybody.
thanks pal!
bookmarked your blog and will come again soon for sure
The latest and greatest is the All In One SEO Plugin of course
